Monday – Today we finished our science stations. I discussed the stations here.

Tuesday – We reviewed notebook pages 1-11 for our Science quiz tomorrow. We also talked about our Notebook Rubric. I will be using that to grade their notebooks toward the end of the week. We discussed our expectations for group work and created a notebook page on page 12.

Wednesday – We will take a Science quiz today. Students may use the extra time to complete unfinished pages or AR read.

Thursday/Friday – Notebooks are all to be in the baskets in our classroom. I will be grading those on Thursday and Friday. Students will be completing STEM challenges. I will be posting pics!!

TGIF and ALL about our previous week in 4th –5/2/14

What a week!! From tornado warnings to Aspire tests, this week has been one for the record books! This week started off with a bang — we dismissed at 12:30 on both Monday and Tuesday due to the threat of severe weather. This was a great time for us to pull out our Science Notebooks and review our Tornado information we taped in back before Christmas. We reviewed all about tornadoes forming, tornado safety, and tornado lingo where students would understand what was happening around them.

After our bad weather threat passed us, it was then time for our Aspire Testing. 4th grade tested Reading on Wednesday. Our test lasted for 60 minutes, and I was so proud of how hard they all worked. On Thursday we tested Math. This test lasted for 55 minutes — and once again I was so proud of the hard work and dedication shown by our 4th graders!

We will have 60 students Aspire testing on Tuesday. We were given the opportunity to pilot three new tests by the Aspire program — Writing, Language, and Science. 60 students were randomly selected to take these tests. This is a great way for students to get test taking practice PLUS lets the school gather data and be part of the test making process. The homeroom of Mrs. Ellis will test on Writing, Mrs. Baggett will test the Language section, and I will be testing Science.

Here are some important reminders of things coming up:

  • Class Pictures are for sale in your child’s homeroom for $12 each.
  • Student Council Posters are due on Monday if your child is running for SGA office.
  • Aspire Testing for those 60 randomly selected students will be on Tuesday morning. More information is given in the above paragraph.
  • Our 21st Century Program will be performing a play about summer camp on Friday, May 9th. 3rd – 5th will attend at 8:30.
  • 4th Grade Field Day will be on the morning of May 14. Students may bring Gatorades, water, or snacks with them to the event.
  • More information about 4th Grade Idol, Awards Day, and our End of the Year party to come VERY soon!! 🙂

We started our Light Unit on Wednesday, April 17. We taped in NB 105 on Wednesday (pictured above). This is our Study Guide for our Light Quiz we will take on Thursday, April 24.

Wednesday:
We taped in NB 105 in our Notebook today. This is our study guide. Today’s lesson covered four questions from our study guide. We read Lesson 3 and made a Natural Light/Artificial Light page on page 106.

Thursday:
Today we read Lesson 4 in our Science Textbook. We learned about Reflection, Refraction, and Absorption. We also learned all about our eyes. We watched a great Study Jam about this today. It is located here.

Friday:
We will take our Daily Math Quiz. We will learn about Transparent, Translucent, and Opaque Materials. This information was taped into our Notebook on page 108. If we have time we will begin our Rainbow Lesson.

Today in Science we started our Sound unit. We will be splitting Chapter 14 into two parts — Lesson 1 and 2 will be our Sound unit, and Lesson 3 and 4 will be our Light Unit.

Thursday:
Today we read Lesson 1 of Chapter 14 in our textbook. We also reviewed our 7 items from today’s lesson that is on our NB 103 Study Guide. Students also received their Sound Homework assignment today (pictured above). This assignment will be a fun, easy daily work assignment. This is due on Tuesday.

Friday:
I will be checking students Physical Science Title Page on NB 102. Students have had this assignment since last Friday. We will read Lesson 2 Chapter 14, and then we will review our Study Guide on NB 103.

Monday:
We are reviewing for our quiz on Tuesday. After our review, we are completing a fun lab activity on Sound. Pictures to come!

Tuesday:
We are testing on Chapter 14 Lesson 1 and 2 today. Also, our Sound Homework is due today.

Solar System Lab and Ch 18 Test Review — 4/7/14

20140407-121018.jpg

Who knew Space Science was so yummy? First, Moon Phases with Oreo cookies, and today we completed a Solar System Candy Lab. I saw this over at Pinterest, and thought it was just too cute. Our 4th graders loved it!! This also worked well as a test review of our planets. Tomorrow students will have to write the planets in order from the Sun.

On Wednesday, we will start our last Science Unit for the year — Physical Science. We will spend four quick days on Sound. I am super excited for our lab — stay tuned!! More information to come on Wednesday/Thursday of this week.

For fellow teachers, this is the link to the information about the Solar System lab and the printout. It is located here.

This week in Science we are starting our last chapter (Chapter 18) in Space Science. Our study guide for this chapter are the two pages in the above picture. Our Chapter 18 Quiz will be on Tuesday, April 8. It will consist of 18 questions — 10 from the vocabulary on NB 98, and 8 from listing our planets in order from the sun.

What’s Happening in Science — Week of 3/3/14

20140303-115222.jpg

It’s hard to believe that this year is going by so fast!! This is the last week for grades in the third 9 weeks grading period!!

This week we are on Daily Math Week 23. We will be testing on Friday. These are coming home on Tuesday this week due to Read Across America Week on Monday!! 🙂

What’s Happening in Science this Week:
On Tuesday, students will be receiving a Chapter 17 Lesson 1 Study Guide. This chapter has so much information — so I thought it would be better for the kids if we split it up into two tests. This test will cover our first 5 vocabulary words, and all of our information we learned last week. This information is located on Science Notebook pages 84 – 92 — and our test will be based on our Study Guide. I snapped a picture of it for any kiddos that have misplaced their guide, and it is also located under Science Tests/Homework on my webpage. This test will be on Thursday.

This week in Lesson 2 we will be focusing on the moon, the lunar eclipse/solar eclipse, and on Friday we will begin learning about the different phases of the moon. We will finish our Chapter next week, and we will have a fun Oreo Moon Phase lab before heading to Chapter 18. 🙂

Day and Night — NB 87, 88, and 89 2/26/14

20140227-105301.jpg

Today in Science we added 3 new pages to our Science Notebook. Our new vocabulary words were added on page 87. For Chapter 17 we will mainly use our Science Notebook instead of textbooks so I taped in our lesson on page 88. On page 89 we copied a cute poem and illustrated it about Day and Night.

I want to give a huge shout-out to Eve Heaton. She is a super star teacher that I found through the use of Google, and I have borrowed/used many of her materials. She is awesome!! Check her out here.

What’s Happening in Science — Week of 2/17/14

I hope everyone enjoyed our snow!! My family sure did, and now I am ready for some spring weather!!

This week in Science we will be doing what I had planned for us to do last week. On Monday we reviewed our Chapter 9 Vocabulary Words, had catch-up time on notebooks, and watched a Bill Nye Video on Erosion. I will be checking notebooks thru Wednesday. More information about this is in the post below on the blog. These notebooks count as a test grade. Tomorrow we will have an altered schedule because of Senior Play. On Wednesday we will FINALLY take our Chapter 9 test! I feel like we have been on this chapter forever!!

On Thursday and Friday we will be doing a mini-lesson on the Three R’s — Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle.Â
