Moon Phases 3/11 and 3/12

We’ve been learning about the Moon Phases yesterday and today in Science. This will lead us to our cool lab on Friday involving Oreo cookies!! If you have sent cookies to help out — we so appreciate it!! 🙂 I can’t wait to post pictures of our fun learning experience we will have!!

We taped in 2 pages into our Science Notebook yesterday. Page 95 was our informational page about the Moon Phases. On page 96 (pictured above) was our Learning the Moon’s Phases page.

After reviewing those 2 pages today, we watched Bill Nye’s Moon Phases video. I think this might be my favorite Bill Nye video yet!!

We also listened to Mr. Parr’s Moon Phases song. We LOVE Mr. Parr!! He makes learning Science so much fun!! 🙂

Study Guides will go home tomorrow for our Chapter 17 Lesson 2 Quiz on Tuesday. Science Notebooks will also be graded on that day.

** For fellow teachers, I found the worksheet above at education.com!! It was a great addition to our Science Notebook!!

Fourth Grade Field Trip

Fourth Grade Field Trip

We are so excited about our field trip to the Space and Rocket Center on Friday, March 21. We are busy this week finalizing plans and making sure everything is in order. If your child is planning on not attending the field trip, please write a note to your child’s teacher and let them know what your child plans to do that day. Thanks so much for your help!!

Rotate vs. Revolve 3/4/14

Today in Science we reviewed our Study Guide for our Ch 17 Lesson Quiz 1 on Thursday. After reviewing, we illustrated the differences between Rotate and Revolution. This is a harder concept for the students — and I wanted to help them “see” the differences. The bottom picture is my notebook example, and the student at the top showing his notebook was celebrating his birthday today!! 🙂

Tomorrow kicks off Lesson 2 of Chapter 17. We will be focusing on the moon, moon phases, and the sun. Our Lesson 2 Quiz is planned for next Thursday. More information to come!! 🙂

What’s Happening in Science — Week of 3/3/14

20140303-115222.jpg

It’s hard to believe that this year is going by so fast!! This is the last week for grades in the third 9 weeks grading period!!

This week we are on Daily Math Week 23. We will be testing on Friday. These are coming home on Tuesday this week due to Read Across America Week on Monday!! 🙂

What’s Happening in Science this Week:
On Tuesday, students will be receiving a Chapter 17 Lesson 1 Study Guide. This chapter has so much information — so I thought it would be better for the kids if we split it up into two tests. This test will cover our first 5 vocabulary words, and all of our information we learned last week. This information is located on Science Notebook pages 84 – 92 — and our test will be based on our Study Guide. I snapped a picture of it for any kiddos that have misplaced their guide, and it is also located under Science Tests/Homework on my webpage. This test will be on Thursday.

This week in Lesson 2 we will be focusing on the moon, the lunar eclipse/solar eclipse, and on Friday we will begin learning about the different phases of the moon. We will finish our Chapter next week, and we will have a fun Oreo Moon Phase lab before heading to Chapter 18. 🙂

Day and Night Day 2 2/27/14

Today we have had an altered schedule due to teacher meetings this morning. Classes were about 30 minutes long so we reviewed Daily Math, reviewed our Day and Night lesson from yesterday, watched our Study Jam on Day and Night, and completed our Notebook page 90. I loved this page — quick way to assess if students understood day and night. If you would like to download your own — It is located here.

Day and Night — NB 87, 88, and 89 2/26/14

Today in Science we added 3 new pages to our Science Notebook. Our new vocabulary words were added on page 87. For Chapter 17 we will mainly use our Science Notebook instead of textbooks so I taped in our lesson on page 88. On page 89 we copied a cute poem and illustrated it about Day and Night.

I want to give a huge shout-out to Eve Heaton. She is a super star teacher that I found through the use of Google, and I have borrowed/used many of her materials. She is awesome!! Check her out here.
